Mental Health Board (Tulare County)

The local mental health board shall do all the following: Continually review and evaluate the community's mental health needs, services, facilities and specific challenges; Develop strategies to meet those needs, provide those services, improve those facilities and address those specific challenges; Make recommendations to the Tulare County Mental Health Board shall be those prescribed in Section 5604.2 of the Welfare and Institutions Code; Those prescribed by Statue, County Ordinance or Resolution; and those transferred by specific order of the Board of Supervisors.

  • Membership Details

    Membership shall consist of the following:
    If the Board maintains a 15 member then the following applies:
    Half of all the board members must be a Mental Health consumer or family member of a mental health consumer (Consumer/Family member means those individuals that are currently or have received mental health services)
    One member of the Board of Supervisors will have a seat on this Board

    Remaining seats shall consist of the following:
    The remaining 6 positions may be filled at the discretion of the Board. That is to say, there is no requirement as to seat type listed in the W&I code.
    1 Alcohol & drug expert and/or consumer
    1 Workforce development/employment training representative
    1 Education representative
    1 Law enforcement representative (Probation, JDF, Sheriff or other law enforcement agency)
    1 Child/youth/foster parent representative
    1 Adult/older adult care representative
    In the alternative ? appoint a regular community member to serve or, have a transitional are youth (18-25) sit on the Board.

    Exclusions that must be adhered to referencing these remaining six (6) seats:
    No member of the Mental Health Board or his/her spouse can be a:
    Full or part-time County Employee of County Mental Health Service
    Employees of the State Department of Mental Health
    Employees of, or a paid member of the governing body of, an Mental Health contract agency.
